Most tip calculators bury a simple sum under ads and a signup wall. This one does three jobs and nothing else: work out the tip on a bill, add it to get the total, and divide that total between however many people are at the table. It is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser, so the numbers you type are never uploaded anywhere.

You enter the bill amount in dollars, pick a tip percentage with a slider that runs from 0 to 30 percent, and set how many people are splitting. Four preset buttons (15, 18, 20 and 25 percent) jump the slider to a common value if you do not want to drag it. It starts at a 50 dollar bill, 18 percent, one person, so you can see it work before you type anything. Results update live as you change any input: there is no calculate button to hunt for.

It shows three figures: the tip amount, the total (bill plus tip), and the per-person share. The maths is the obvious one: tip is the bill times the percentage, total is bill plus tip, and per person is the total divided by the number of people. Everything is rounded to two decimals for display only. The split is an even split of the total, so it cannot handle one friend who ordered the lobster and another who had water.

Be aware of what it does not do. There is no tax field, so if you want to tip on the pre-tax amount, enter the pre-tax amount. It only shows dollar signs, and it does not round the total up to a neat number for you. If you leave the bill empty it treats it as zero, and a split below one falls back to one. Small tool, honest scope.

How to use it

  1. Type the bill amount in dollars into the Bill Amount box.
  2. Drag the Tip % slider (0 to 30) or press the 15%, 18%, 20% or 25% preset.
  3. Set Split Between to the number of people and read the tip, total and per-person results.

Worked example

Dinner for three comes to 86.40 dollars and you want to tip 20 percent. Enter 86.40, press the 20% preset, and set the split to 3. Tip amount: 86.40 x 0.20 = $17.28. Total: 86.40 + 17.28 = $103.68. Per person: 103.68 / 3 = $34.56. If you drag the slider down to 15 percent instead, the tip becomes $12.96 and the total $99.36, which is $33.12 each.

FAQ

How is the tip calculated?

Tip amount is the bill multiplied by the tip percentage divided by 100. The total is the bill plus the tip, and the per-person figure is the total divided by the number of people. Results are shown rounded to two decimals.

Does it split the bill evenly?

Yes. It divides the total, tip included, equally by the number you enter in Split Between. It cannot assign different amounts to different people.

Can I calculate the tip on the pre-tax amount?

There is no tax field. Enter the pre-tax subtotal as the bill amount and the tip will be based on that figure.

Is my data saved or uploaded?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, nothing is sent to a server, and no signup is needed.
